i really wanted to do a maid for the cafe at Minamicon 14 2008 and wanted to stray a little from your standard EGL style a little, i chose pink because its my Favorite color and i reminds me of iced rings, fondant fancies and ice cream (and most importantly Hello Kitty :D)
i drew the design about a week before i started to sew and was given a pink bridesmaid dress to cut up for the base, i dismantled most of it (hacked with scissors) for the underskirt and carefully un-picked the lace trim from around the bottom of the b/maid dress and the big floppy collar to go along the edge of the bag and around the apron
the shirt also has its sleeves and buttons to match that on the bag
the hat/headpiece is done in the same fabric as the skirt and trimmed in the same lace, (i did notice the bag is the perfect shape to carry the head peice
i was also thinking of makng different badges to go on the chest of the apron, the hat and bag... maybe a kitty face, ice-cream and cookies or sweets
